Gas prices at the Arco am pm off of 12th Avenue in Hanford are lower than the state average.

Gas prices are on the rise due to decreased supply, strong demand and refinery maintenance, the AAA Fuel Gauge Report said this week.

Prices in California have increased an average of 15 cents per gallon since last week. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $2.61 as of Tuesday. California currently has the highest gas prices in the nation, exceeding even Hawaii, which imports its entire petroleum supply, paid $2.55 per gallon on average.

乐动体育Despite the recent increase, Valley gas prices have remained well below the state average. As of Tuesday, AAA reported an average of $2.43 per gallon in the Visalia-Tulare-Porterville metro area. That’s well below the year-ago average of $3.27 per gallon.

The Fresno, Merced and Modesto regions also stayed lower than other parts of the state.

Areas with the highest average gas prices this week include:

Los Angeles-Long Beach: $2.73

Orange County: $2.72

San Luis Obispo-Atascadero-Paso Robles: $2.75

Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc: $2.70

Ventura: $2.72

AAA said prices typically increase this time of year as gas demand increases and refineries conduct seasonal maintenance. Prices in some regions may move much higher in the near future as the switch to summer-blend gasoline affects supply and demand. Retail facilities have until June 1 to begin selling the cleaner blend.
